Our Veterinary Nurses


Two Veterinary Nurses Treating a Dog

We have many veterinary nurses on staff who are registered with The Veterinary Surgeon’s Board and preform the following tasks:

  • Assisting Veterinarians during consultations, examinations and treatments.
  • Patient’s admissions and discharges.
  • Caring for animals in hospital, including wound management and bandaging support, medicating, feeding and exercising.
  • Assisting with surgery preparations by clipping fur, swabbing skin and administering and monitoring anaesthesia.
  • Providing support to the surgeon by handling instruments, monitoring oxygen and fluids and providing post-operative care.
  • Performing diagnostic laboratory tests and assisting veterinarians with taking blood samples and radiographs.
  • Maintaining hygiene by cleaning and disinfecting animal cages, floors, benchtops, and surgery theatre.
  • Sterilising instruments and other surgical equipment.
  • Triaging patients by prioritising emergency situations.
  • Maintaining stock control of medicines, food, flea/worm control and other basic hospital supplies.
  • Providing animal care information on nutrition, parasite control and behaviour.
  • Educating owners about responsible pet ownership and maintaining the health and wellbeing of their pets.
  • Recording and maintaining clinical and office records of animals attending the hospital.

Nurse Nutrition Consultations

With the help of Hills Science Diet, we have recently introduced a nutritional program for our regular clients, to assist with the healthy body condition of their dogs and cats. The results have been spectacular and we look forward to sharing them with you.
